December 6 Love
“Watch of wondering love”
Pray
Heavenly Father, in love Your Son came into my world, in love He lived and for love He died. May my life be a reflection of Your awesome love, made known to the watching, waiting world in Jesus. Amen.
Read – John 13:34
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
Reflect
“Love came down at Christmas” we sing. Though simple, the words are profound and true. It’s impossible to understand the motivation behind the story of Christmas without love. In fact, it’s impossible to understand God’s dealings with His wayward creation without love. From the very beginning, humanity rebelled against God’s purpose and plan. Like headstrong children, our ancestors consistently chose the wrong path, turning from holiness to hedonism, wounding the heart of the Creator. It’s a wonder that, unlike Pilate, God did not wash His hands of us all. And yet, He did not.
It was love that formed the master plan of our redemption. Hidden for long ages, hoped for by the prophets, that plan took flesh in the person and work of Jesus of Nazareth. Love made Him come into our fallen world. Love made God into more than the Creator; for love’s sake, God also became the Redeemer. What other motive could there possibly be for the One who made the world and everything in it to humble Himself and take on human form? Why else would the Creator’s hands take on the vulnerability of the manger, or the cruelty of Calvary, if not for love? And, of course, the most amazing thing is that God’s love is not abstract or academic, it is personal and profound. Christ came for you as if you were the only person who needed to be saved. That’s love!
